At Elite Dev Squad, we understand the importance of arranging and setting up servers for organizing and pre-production stages to effectively test a product during its active development phase. This ensures production stability and facilitates asynchronous feature releases. However, we also recognize that this approach can be quite costly for businesses, which might deter many companies from adopting it. This is precisely the challenge we encountered with one of our clients.
The Issue
Following the establishment of an efficient supply chain that involved the provision of an additional pre-production server, the client encountered significant maintenance expenses. Although pleased with the improvements brought about by the new system and delivery process, our client challenged us to reduce maintenance costs while preserving all its advantages.
Our Solution
To address this issue, we suggested implementing work schedules for the arrangement and pre-production servers, taking into account the different time zones of our team and the three client offices (Australia, New Zealand, and the UK). This approach enhanced collaboration and responsiveness, while minimizing downtime. We will delve into the positive outcomes in more detail later in the article. Leveraging Terraform technology for orchestrating the expanded infrastructure (infrastructure as code), we made all modifications through Terraforms. Although this method took slightly longer to implement, it ensured that we could adjust the design without risking disruption to the entire system. To tackle this challenge, we enlisted the expertise of a DevOps engineer, and the task was completed in just over a day.

It resulted in a significant decrease in maintenance costs without compromising functionality or security. Our implemented solution saved approximately $400 per month. Moreover, it enhanced collaboration between our team and the client by streamlining development preparation, leading to faster feedback and issue resolution.
